Community Science in the Garden

We are excited to offer patrons of all ages a fun way to contribute to global scientific research right here in Carson City. Library card holders can check out a Community Science Backpack at the Information Desk to observe and track wildlife, plants and weather patterns in our Library Garden. If you are interested in checking out a backpack, please visit our Information Desk or contact us!

Community Science Backpacks are available for two-hour checkouts in the garden area, and are not to be taken off library property.

Community Science Backpacks are available for checkout and use in the library's garden. The backpacks include tools for observing and recording nature in the garden

SciStarter, NNLM, and the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program collaborated with libraries and community-based organizations on Citizen Science Day in 2019, Citizen Science Month in 2020, the Summer Reading Meets Citizen Science program in 2020 and additional events and efforts leading up to and through Citizen Science Month 2021. This work introduces communities across the United States to All of Us and other featured citizen science efforts focused on health and environmental research, leveraging strategic partnerships with trusted community leaders like public libraries and local community-based organizations.
