May the Fourth Be With You: Families Build Pool Noodle Lightsabers at the Carson City Library

A long time ago in a library not so far away…

Families gathered at the Carson City Library to celebrate Star Wars Day with one of our most popular annual traditions—creating their very own pool noodle lightsabers!

Participants of all ages transformed ordinary pool noodles into colorful Jedi and Sith-inspired creations using duct tape, foam, stickers, and plenty of imagination. Soon, the library was filled with aspiring Jedi Masters, fearless Padawans, daring space adventurers, and even a few mischievous Sith as everyone proudly showed off their custom lightsabers.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was seeing generations create together. Children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers worked side by side, sharing ideas, helping one another with their designs, and celebrating each completed lightsaber. Programs like these remind us that creativity—and a love of stories—is something that can be enjoyed at any age.

While the craft was inspired by the beloved Star Wars universe, the afternoon was also a celebration of imagination, hands-on learning, and community. Participants practiced problem-solving as they designed their lightsabers, expressed their creativity through unique color combinations and decorations, and made lasting memories with family and friends.

At the Carson City Library, we love finding ways to bring stories to life beyond the pages of a book. Whether through crafts, STEAM activities, book clubs, makerspace programs, or family events, we strive to create experiences that inspire curiosity and encourage lifelong learning.

A special thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s May the Fourth celebration. Seeing our community laugh, create, and share in the excitement of a galaxy far, far away made the afternoon truly memorable.

We hope you’ll keep an eye on our events calendar and social media for even more creative family programs throughout the year. You never know what adventure awaits next at the Carson City Library!

May the Force be with you… always.
