A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes
A library card opens the door to new stories, creative projects, and opportunities to connect. This September, Carson City Library celebrated Library Card Sign-Up Month with “A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes,” bringing music, crafts, and a little sparkle to the library.
Throughout the month, patrons helped create our Library Card Symphony by sharing how they use their library cards on paper musical notes. Together, their contributions highlighted the many ways the library fits into everyday life, from finding a new favorite book to exploring a new interest.
The musical fun continued with DIY Tambourines on September 1, where participants made their own instruments and experimented with rhythm. A month-long Musical Instrument Scavenger Hunt encouraged patrons to explore the library, find clues, and return their completed clue sheets to the information desk for a prize.
Families also had opportunities to give their library cards some personality. On September 6, the Monster Library Card Holder craft offered a chance to create a colorful home for a library card. Library Card and Book Cover Bedazzling on September 8 and 11 added extra shine as participants decorated their cards and book covers with gems and embellishments.
The celebration included chances to win, too. Patrons could participate in a Kindle prize opportunity connected to library card use and purchases or donations at Browser’s Corner. As part of the library’s 60th anniversary, our Golden Ticket campaign also tucked surprises into holds, with lucky recipients winning anniversary tote bags.
Whether patrons joined a craft, searched for musical instruments, or added a note to our symphony, September was a chance to celebrate what makes a library card special: everything it makes possible.
