Think Bionics
Bionics is the study of mechanical systems that function like living organisms or parts of living organisms. Nature has the potential to provide inspiration for technology, so we can look at bionics in two ways: a tool for increasing creativity and a tool for structured problem solving.
The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) jobs will grow twice as fast as other fields in the coming decade. To prepare Carson City youth for future careers in these fields, Think Bionics Camps will increase their knowledge of STEM topics, improve problem solving skills, and provide encouragement to pursue a career in STEM fields. In 2021, the Carson City Library will host socially distanced, three-day Think Bionics Camps for middle school youth during school breaks and on successive Saturdays. The camps will use FESTO bionics kits and curriculum for an interactive and hands-on learning experience.
